Yes Sir! It is Education I want.

This morning, I had an interesting thought; it's amazing how inventions such as the toothbrush and the paper clip have probably reached their most advanced stage of development; what other great improvements could we think of?! And then I thought: "Hey, that's a bit like education, it is pretty much as good as it'll ever get!"

What a fine tradition of academic excellence we have built! Glorious days of learning and teaching. I'm not surprised that we produced more graduates last year than in the wholehuman histor: our universities work better than sardines factories. I am proud and smile, thinking about it every bright sunny morning!

My grandparents did amazingly well with the education they received, and there is no reason to change it; if it worked for them, it's bound to work for me. And why wouldn't it? Everyone knows very well that you don't change a winning horse! Our grandparents knew about the world, and it is a long line of fine leaders our education system has produced: look at us, times have never been better! We love boour politicians and business leaders, a fine breed of gentleman who care about others.

Our education system has to keep its great values: it needs to be strict, stricter, and more rigid. We need to teach them (who?) discipline and order. Youth needs to learn its place in society, and learn in the books before they can go to the big wide world. How do you think they survived a 1000 years ago? Just by doing it, and going out there? No, certainly not, it is thanks to textbooks, more textbooks and exams!

And these people who always want to change everything: they only causes trouble! It is hard and complicated, and we don't have time to mess around with silly ideas that we are not even sure will work. If these greats ideas are so great: why aren't we using them? There you go, now we are having a sensible and rational conversation.

There is no need to question the way we have been educating our youth for over a hundred years. Everyone is happy with the education system the way it is. Everything is great the way it is, don't try to fix anything: it is good enough the way it is!

And then,

I watched this video called "Did you know 4.0", and... well, maybe it is easier if you just check it yourself:

After that, I thought... very surprisingly,

Maybe some things have changed. This whole internet thing is AMAZING: where was I when it all happened?! It is completely UNBELIEVABLE what is happening to our world! It is all so... different from what I was used to, and yet, so exciting!

I am so amazed that we can communicate for so cheap, and that we have access to so much information. This whole Facebook, Twitter and YouTube thing: fantastic! Keeping track of friends even after 20 years of not seeing each other, or getting instantenous news everywhere, or even sharing so many fun, interesting, inspiring and ridiculous videos. I can only say: WOW!

So I have to admit that maybe the world IS a bit different than when I grew up... and god knows what it will look like in 5 years, let alone 10 or 20! Now I find it funny that we really think that we can prepare our youth the way we were taught. I laugh so much just thinking about it! Now, seriously, we NEED to teach them SUCH different stuff. They have no chance in the future if we don't prepare them...

Hummm... maybe there is something we can do. Maybe we should at least consider doing something a bit... different. I suddenly remember a quote by Einstein that is quite appropriate I think:

There is no more sure sign of insanity than doing the same thing over and over but expect a different result.

In that case, maybe at Seeducation we are not THAT insane, just... unreasonable?

And as Debra quoted in her fantastic speech about youth:

Reasonable men adapt themselves to their circumstances; Unreasonable men, adapt their circumstances to themselves.

Therefore, all change depends on unreasonable men.

That makes me feel that we should actually be proud to be unreasonable. The real question is:

How unreasonable are you?
